Call Out Criteria

The following are suggested criteria for calling immediately for a BASICS doctor to attend an incident on reception of 999 call:

• All Road traffic accidents (In view of large geographical area covered), including pedestrian & cycle RTA's.
• Falls from a height (>15 feet).
• Serious head injuries with prolonged loss of consciousness.
• Assaults involving stab wounds to the chest & / or abdomen.
• Penetrating trauma.
• Casualty trapped or impaled for any reason.
• Difficult geographical or environmental location in which there may be a delay in hospital transfer (>20mins.)
• House, or other, fires in which people are reported to be involved.
• Major Burns.
• To support non paramedic trained crews attending a cardiac arrest.
• To support an ambulance crew attending a medical collapse / cardiac arrest in person <40 years old.
• In the event of a Major Accident being declared, to act as Medical Incident Officer.
